</div>TWC announces unemployment benefit extentionUnemployment Insurance benefits have been extended for seven weeks, the Texas Workforce Commission has announced. President Bush recently signed legislation providing up to seven weeks of emergency unemployment benefits to workers who have exhausted their benefits and are still unemployed. The extended benefits are federally funded and employers will not be charged for any claims paid on this extension, the TWC says.

If you received employer-sponsored group health for no less than three months, you are eligible for conversion health coverage. When you purchase a conversion health plan in Pennsylvania, you must pay the premiums that your employer may have once paid for you under your employer-sponsored group health plan; however, you can’t be denied due to any medical conditions. Affordable health in Pennsylvania in the form of conversion covers not only you, but anyone else who was previously covered under your employer-sponsored group health plan. This includes your spouse – even if the two if you are divorced – and your children. As long as the person is your dependent, and previously covered with your health policy, he or she can also be covered under your conversion coverage plan. You are not eligible for conversion health coverage if you are already receiving, or are eligible to receive, health offering similar coverage from another group health plan, or health care programs such as Medicare. In most cases, you must also use up the Federal COBRA health care coverage if you qualify for it. Once you become unemployed, you must be notified of your health rights under conversion health plans. Once you are notified, you have 31 days to apply for conversion coverage. If you have not been notified of your health rights under conversion health plans, contact your employer, the health company from which your employer purchased the employer-sponsored group health plan, or the Department of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
