For employees to answer about your manager?

how would u rate on a scale of 1 – 5 (1 v.good – 5. v. bad) on:

Conducting management issues i.e. one-to-ones :

Their people management skills:

Communicate with you:

Communicate relevant business news:

what do you think your managers best management qualities are?

Do you think your manager needs more management training, if so why?

what training do you feel would improve their management performance

Just to explain: I really like my manager as a person. I do not like her as a manager, because I have little confidence in her ability to manage effectively (but she is good at her own job).

Management issues – don’t know, have only worked under her for a month

People management skills – 4

Communicate with me – 4 – she was previously self-employed and is not used to having to keep people in the loop. That said, she does recognise that this is an issue and she is trying to adapt.

Communicate business news – 5 – myself and another team member have to communicate business news to her rather than the other way round

Best management qualities – my team is outsourced to work on a client site and she is able to present a very strong impression to the client that she is running the team really well and we’re all great (she is very confident and always knows the right thing to say). She’s also very direct and if she has an issue she will be upfront about it and deal with it straight away.

More training – yes; I don’t know for sure but I don’t think she has ever had any management training. Our team has just been restructured; previously she was in the team in a more senior position than me and part of her job involved coaching/guiding more junior members of the team, but I do not believe she has ever had formal management responsibilities before.

What training – definitely something to do with communication.
