FLASH!! New News and same video of opinion and plea to the NRM in Green Bay over MILW 261

*****UPDATED***** The FOT261 and S. Sandberg have broken off negotiations with NRM. The NRM stalled long enough it just is not worth the time or money to continue or finish the rebuild of 261. Plus, NRM only wanted a 10-year lease to get the unit back fully operational for 5 years on the FOT261′s expense. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE NRM ANY BUSINESS UNTIL THIS MANAGEMENT REGIME IS GONE! I will leave the video up a couple more days for those that want to contact NRM and tell them how HAPPY we are with this decision! The news broke a few days ago that the Milwaukee Road steam engine 261 will NOT be coming back to the rails due to the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay Wi. takng a hard line on the renewal contract. This is a MAJOR loss to the railfan AND business community. I urge anyone who can to try and persuade the museum to re-consider. How much is too much profit? The museum has responded to people so you CAN make a difference! All photos and opinions are mine. …Video made by myself,. NOTE: Preivious two versions have had almost 400 hits between them in 48 hours. THanks to all that looked, and sorry if I offended anyone,

    @0:26 you mean one …
@0:26 you mean one of the most beautiful steam engines.

  2. The3751FAN says:

    im glad somone …
im glad somone bought her but i really hope he lets freinds of 261 have her back

    What about 2523 in …
What about 2523 in Willmar, Mn? Has anybody ever gone and seen this engine? I thought it might be a good candidate for replacing 261…

  4. tinman3804 says:

    I just read the 261 …
I just read the 261 Forum page on the friends website. I hope this guy who bought 261 from the NRM is doing this in good faith to help the friends of 261 out. Hopefully he is not an and is willing to help you guys out.

I think when the NRM was in negotions with Steve, they were planning this behind your backs. F$#king suckers.

Well theres always 265 at the IRM..

  5. milw189 says:

    @jay600katana I …
@jay600katana I need to take this down, as the Museum SOLD, yes, SOLD the engine to a dealer who sold it to a private collector. All their smoke and mirrors about getting it back for a display, or to run it themselves was BULLSHIT. ONE GOOD THING….there is a GOOD chance the FOT261 will get her back now! Stay tuned!

  6. jay600katana says:

I sent one off, if …
I sent one off, if I don’t get relpy….i’ll give those cocksuckers a peice of my mind. hahaha If Steve needs a replacement,(hopefully not) run down to the VMT and pick up N&W J 611….perfect power for what he needs.

  7. tinman3804 says:

    What do you think …
What do you think about them finding another engine? There has to be a engine out there that they could buy for a resonable price.

  8. milw189 says:

    YEs, Green Bay …
YEs, Green Bay should be proud. I do SO hope people boycott this POS of a sham!

In the end, 261 MAY just be scrap fodder.

  9. tinman3804 says:

    There has to be …
There has to be another good cadadate for a replace ment for 261. I know that it would be awsome to see that Yellowstone engine at the Duluth train museum up and running. But that thing is waaaaay to BIG. It would be like restoring a big boy almost. All the other engines in the area are too small for what you guys would want it to do.

  10. milw189 says:

    Well, depends on …
Well, depends on what side of the “rumor mill” you want to believe. Plus, every piece of equipment owned by IRM, or FOT261, NSR, need to come off her. NRM gets a stuffed-and-mounted hulk that is not only out-of-code, but in pieces. Ya, way to go NRM! THis helped all of us!

  11. tinman3804 says:

    Are they shipping …
Are they shipping her back to GB in pieces. I cannot believe the friends are going to waste the time and put her back together.

  12. milw189 says:

    Remember her as she …
Remember her as she WAS. She’s in pieces now.

  13. tinman3804 says:

I hate to say it …
I hate to say it guys I think where going to have to find a new engine… I don’t want to say its over but I think our days with 261 are very short. I know I am not a member, but is there any way I can get one more look at her before she goes back to GB?

  14. milw189 says:

    Unfortunately, NRM …
Unfortunately, NRM owns her. I WISH they would just sell it to the FOT261.

  15. pdxsteam says:

    Is it possible to …
Is it possible to get the city of Minneapolis behind the engine? Here in Portland 4449, 700, and 197 are owned by the city itself and are not leased by any museums. And owning the engines costs the city absolutly nothing.

  16. 736berkshire says:

    TELL THE NRM …
TELL THE NRM 736berkshire SAYS THEY SHOULD GO THEMSELVES!!!

  17. milw189 says:

    Well, “Stuffed and …
Well, “Stuffed and Mounted” is what this engine will no wbecome. The Friends of the 261, (S. Sandberg) has walked away from the negotiations. NRM was too dificult and too money hungry to deal with. We lost! I hope anyone who has read this, will NEVER give this management regime in Green Bay ANY time or money. Sigh….like when ObiWan said..that boy’s our last hope”..Yoda says..”No, there is another”…lets hope this is true for MILW 265!!!

  18. LNERMallard says:

    I was crying when I …
I was crying when I found this out. I hope they let the Friends of the 261 continue operating it, or at least operate by themselves. They just CAN’T put it on the sidelines after it has fascinated new generations of rail fans for 16 years. I have never seen the locomotive operating in person, even though I am a Minnesotan, but I do not live were 261 is. BTW, what does stuffed and mounted mean? I’m just wondering, but it doesn’t sound good.

  19. 2598John says:

    Have you guys …
Have you guys checked out the Friends of the National Railroad Museum page on Facebook? Looks like the 261 is going back to the Museum.

TO PDXSTEAM and all: If for some reason your post disapears, it’s because I hit remove by accident. I apologize to anyone who thinks I “censored” them.

I sent them an e-mail as soon as I found out. I live in Portland, Oregon so I definatly know the significance of working steam engines.

And for those of you saying negative things about NRM and calling them names and what-not, don’t do it. And DO NOT SEND HATE MAIL! It won’t solve anything and it will only make NRM tighten their grip.

  22. milw189 says:

    Thanks much! I …
Thanks much! I still haven’t received a reply to mine, nor has anyone at NRM “officially” came to their defense. Time is growing short!

  23. tinman3804 says:

    What NRM wants more …
What NRM wants more money for the lease of the engine? What kind funds do they want? I have to imagine that it is not only money there after. I took your advice and sent them a pretty nice email telling them to not destroy what 261 has become in the last 16 yrs an keep it on the rails.

  24. milw189 says:

    MONEY. What gets me …
MONEY. What gets me, the NRM was at Trainfest, and they were all smiles trying to recruit new members. If half of them knew what REALLY is going on there, they would have RAN!

  25. tinman3804 says:

This is a peace of …
This is a peace of Americana, if you let these S.O.B.S take this engine back to the museum. You are letting a peace of our history and where we came from disapear into dust. What kind of beef do they have with you guys running this engine?
