It's official: Facebook IPO prices at $38
Facebook's IPO has priced at $38 per share, the company reported in a news release issued minutes after markets closed, Thursday.
The pricing is at the top of a range set at the beginning of this week by Facebook Inc., and values the company at over $100 billion. Shares are set to begin trading on Friday.

A Harvard study argues that workplace inspections designed to prevent injuries do not cost jobs due to higher costs for businesses. In fact, the researchers say, they save money. HP to cut up to 25,000 jobs (report); no word on Mass. layoffs
<img src='http://assets.bizjournals.com/sanjose/print-edition/WOIWhitmanMeg*100.jpg?v=1'>Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE: HPQ) may cut as many as 25,000 jobs, or 8 percent of its workforce, according to a report from Bloomberg News that cites people familiar with the matter.
HP employs about 3,000 employees in Massachusetts, including at their Andover and Marlborough campuses. The Marlborough campus is around 133,000 square feet and is leased until 2016.

Tufts plans level 3 biolab in Boston's Chinatown
Tufts University announced Wednesday that it is seeking approval from the Boston Public Health Commission to build a biosafety research laboratory within its medical school building, located on Harrison Avenue in Chinatown.

Broker-Dealer ordered to recover $1M+ in annuities sold to elderly widow

Beck, a Maryland-based broker-dealer, has been ordered by the Massachusetts Secretary of State to refund more than $1 million in annuities improperly sold to an elderly widow by one of its representatives.
The order, issued by the state's Securities Division, also imposes a $90,000 fine on H. Beck for failure to supervise Paul J. Dumouchel of Wellesley, who was a registered representative of the firm from February 2009 through November 2011, according to Secretary of the State William F. Galvin.

BU School of Management gets second multi-million-dollar gift from former Macy's exec
Allen Questrom, retired chief executive officer of several of the nation?s largest department and specialty stores, has given $10 million to the Boston University School of Management, according to BU Today, a university publication.
This is Questrom?s second multimillion dollar gift to the school. In 2007, Questrom gave the school gave $4 million for an endowed deanship and professorship called the Allen Questrom Professor and Dean.

Boston small biz owners gloomier than other cities (survey)

Only 19 percent of Boston-area respondents to the study said they plan to hire more employees, compared to 31 percent nationwide. About 56 percent said they expected revenue to increase versus the national 61 percent, and 38 percent said they?d market their business to get more customers, 9 percentage points less than the nationwide figure.

HP to cut up to 25,000 jobs (report); no word on Mass. layoffs
<img src='http://assets.bizjournals.com/sanjose/print-edition/WOIWhitmanMeg*100.jpg?v=1'>Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE: HPQ) may cut as many as 25,000 jobs, or 8 percent of its workforce, according to a report from Bloomberg News that cites people familiar with the matter.
HP employs about 3,000 employees in Massachusetts, including at their Andover and Marlborough campuses. The Marlborough campus is around 133,000 square feet and is leased until 2016.

Tufts plans level 3 biolab in Boston's Chinatown
Tufts University announced Wednesday that it is seeking approval from the Boston Public Health Commission to build a biosafety research laboratory within its medical school building, located on Harrison Avenue in Chinatown.
The new lab at 136 Harrison Ave. would be 1,700 square feet and a biosafety level three research facility with tuberculosis as its main focus of research, according to a press release from Tufts. Broker-Dealer ordered to recover $1M+ in annuities sold to elderly widow

Beck, a Maryland-based broker-dealer, has been ordered by the Massachusetts Secretary of State to refund more than $1 million in annuities improperly sold to an elderly widow by one of its representatives.
The order, issued by the state's Securities Division, also imposes a $90,000 fine on H. Beck for failure to supervise Paul J. Dumouchel of Wellesley, who was a registered representative of the firm from February 2009 through November 2011, according to Secretary of the State William F. Galvin.

BU School of Management gets second multi-million-dollar gift from former Macy's exec
Allen Questrom, retired chief executive officer of several of the nation?s largest department and specialty stores, has given $10 million to the Boston University School of Management, according to BU Today, a university publication.
This is Questrom?s second multimillion dollar gift to the school. In 2007, Questrom gave the school gave $4 million for an endowed deanship and professorship called the Allen Questrom Professor and Dean.

Boston small biz owners gloomier than other cities (survey)

Only 19 percent of Boston-area respondents to the study said they plan to hire more employees, compared to 31 percent nationwide. About 56 percent said they expected revenue to increase versus the national 61 percent, and 38 percent said they?d market their business to get more customers, 9 percentage points less than the nationwide figure.
