Biofuels- Inviting Big Investments By James Marriot It's hard to see any major magazine or national newspaper these days not displaying the hype on biofuels, & how these biofuels are going to save oil, prevent climatic changes and reduce pollution. Bill Gates of Microsoft, Vinod Khosla of Sun Microsystems' and many other big venture capitalists are investing large sums of money in biofuel production projects. The global impact made by biofuel rush is significant. Brazil is often considered as the most remarkable success story of biofuel. It is using about half of its annual production of sugarcane to provide 40 % of its automobile fuel. By 2015, Brazil's global

PJM plans $2B in grid upgradesPJM Interconnection said Thursday that its board of directors has approved more than 130 upgrades worth nearly $2 billion to the transmission grid it manages.
The Valley Forge, Pa.-based grid operator and power wholesaler said the upgrades are necessary because of plans by generation companies on its grid to retire nearly 14,000 megawatts of generation capacity between May 2012 and the end of 2015. biodiesel production is projected to outpace that of Europe & US. The entire buzz at biotech industries is biofuels. The most recent biotech companies and biotech mega-convention are contending to encash the biofuel bonanza. Biofuels prove to be advantageous in certain applications, which includes crop wastes being used by farmers to fuel their fields, waste oil being used to run cars, which, otherwise, is thrown away by restaurants. England's Cambridge University has built a mobile refinery. With the help of this refinery, rape oil can be converted into bio-diesel, to vend to fuel retailers. There are 12 different varieties of flora that can be used to produce biofuels for Indian biofuel industry. Jatropha plant is one plant that is used to produce biofuels. A number of research institutions are carrying out experiments for plantation of various oil-bearing plants. However, definite estimates can be made only once the entire research work is done.
