Jawa settles lawsuit with VerizonJawa and founder Jason Hope have settled a lawsuit with Verizon Wireless regarding claims the premium texting service company was violating the carrier?s terms for businesses.

In an job market for new college graduates that?s improving, but still tight, internships can put you on the path to that first job.
The chances of snagging an internship have improved. Employers plan to boost internship hiring by 8.5 percent this year compared with 2011, according to a survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Scott Jensen named interim Maryland labor secretary
Gov. Martin O'Malley has named Scott R. Jensen as interim secretary of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.
Since January, Jensen has been deputy secretary under former Secretary Alexander M. Sanchez, who recently stepped down from the position to become chief of staff to Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

United Way of Central Maryland gets $1M gift from Mirmirans
The United Way of Central Maryland said Thursday that Fred and Ferie Mirmiran have made the first $1 million gift to the nonprofit in the last five years.
The gift, to be made over the next five years, establishes the Mirmiran Family Fund at United Way. The organization says the Mirmirans will become the seventh million-dollar contributors in the United Way of Central Maryland's nearly 90-year history.

Baltimore No. 5 for tech job growth

The publication says the Baltimore area "has benefited from the expansion in federal spending, logging 38.8 percent growth in tech jobs over the past 10 years and 17.2 percent growth in" Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) jobs.

Saint Agnes Hospital expands cardiac services
Saint Agnes Hospital is ramping up its services for cardiac patients with a new addition to its chest pain emergency center.
The Southwest Baltimore hospital opened Thursday a 3,800-square-foot addition to its chest pain center. The hospital also announced a partnership with emergency response teams to equip ambulances with mobile electrocardiogram, or EKG, devices.

Human Genome Sciences adopts stockholder rights plan

Baseball chief sees no urgency on A's San Jose decision

Salesforce stock up after hours on Q1 earnings
Salesforce.com inc. on Thursday reported first quarter revenue of $695 million, an increase of 38 percent on a year-over-year basis.
San Francisco-based company (NYSE:CRM), with offices in San Mateo, provides enterprise cloud computing applications. It reported a net loss for the first quarter of $19.5 million, or 14 cents per share.
The company's stock dropped $2.78 per share to close at $133.80. It was trading up more than 7 percent after hours.

Applied Materials Q2 revenue beats analyst expectations

Bill would prevent Facebook co-founder from evading taxes
Legislation has been introduced by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and and Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) that would prevent executives such as Facebook Inc. co-founder Eduardo Saverin from avoiding taxes by giving up their U.S. citizenship.
Saverin renounced his U.S. citizenship in September and lives in Singapore, according Business Journals Washington Bureau Chief Kent Hoover.

Facebook Inc. sold its shares in its initial public offering Thursday afternoon at $38 a share, raising $16 billion in the biggest tech IPO in history.

HP said to plan 25,000-30,000 job cuts
Hewlett-Packard Co. will reportedly announce plans to cut between 25,000 and 30,000 jobs over the next year or so when it posts earnings next week.
Reports that cite unnamed sources on AllThingsDigital, Bloomberg and Business Insider vary on the size of the work force reduction at Palo Alto-based HP (NYSE:HPQ).
The restructuring will reportedly include a number of voluntary retirement packages, with AllThingsDigital putting that number at about 5,000 people.
