Report: U.S. closer to energy independence The natural gas boom in the Marcellus Shale and elsewhere is helping the United States move closer to its goal of energy independence.
Bloomberg said Tuesday the U.S. is closer to energy independence today than it has been in the past 20 years, a goal it set 40 years ago with the Mideast oil crisis.
While the Marcellus Shale isn't specifically mentioned, the story said there's so much natural gas production that the U.S. might create an export terminal. And it talks about the chemical industry's thirst for natural gas and the Dow Chemical Co...

Sarris store opening in March Sarris Candies said Monday it expected it would reopen its store in March following a Friday fire at the Adams Avenue facility.
Damage from the fire already led the company to destroy upward of 20,000 pounds of chocolate, but owners have said the majority of their stock for Valentine's Day and Easter was stored in another location unaffected by the fire.
But damage was more extensive than expected and, instead of weeks, it'll be about 30 days before the store and ice cream parlor in Canonsburg reopens, the Observer-Reporter said.
