Facebook IPO shares priced at $38<img src='http://assets.bizjournals.com/sanjose/print-edition/11-FACEBOOK-ipo*100.jpg?v=1'>Facebook Inc. priced its initial public offering of stock at $38 per share as of late Thursday afternoon, according to a MarketWatch report.
Based on the per share price, Facebook?s IPO would be valued at $104 billion. The company raised $16 billion in the offering.
Earlier this week, the social-networking giant indicated that it had expected to price its shares in the $34 to $38 range. Thursday?s announcement puts the IPO on the high-end of the range.

This is down from 3.83 percent the prior week, Bloomberg reported, citing figures from Freddie Mac. This week?s rates are the lowest in the McLean, Va.-based mortgage-finance company?s recorded history, dating back to 1971.

Salesforce stock up after hours on Q1 earnings
Salesforce.com inc. on Thursday reported first quarter revenue of $695 million, an increase of 38 percent on a year-over-year basis.
San Francisco-based company (NYSE:CRM), with offices in San Mateo, provides enterprise cloud computing applications. It reported a net loss for the first quarter of $19.5 million, or 14 cents per share.
The company's stock dropped $2.78 per share to close at $133.80. It was trading up more than 7 percent after hours.

Facebook Inc. sold its shares in its initial public offering Thursday afternoon at $38 a share, raising $16 billion in the biggest tech IPO in history.

HP said to plan 25,000-30,000 job cuts
Hewlett-Packard Co. will reportedly announce plans to cut between 25,000 and 30,000 jobs over the next year or so when it posts earnings next week.
Reports that cite unnamed sources on AllThingsDigital, Bloomberg and Business Insider vary on the size of the work force reduction at Palo Alto-based HP (NYSE:HPQ).
The restructuring will reportedly include a number of voluntary retirement packages, with AllThingsDigital putting that number at about 5,000 people.

MarkLogic hires eMeter's Gary Bloom as new CEO

The San Carlos-based company specializes in powering big data applications.
Bloom was previously the CEO and president of San Mateo-based smart grid management software company eMeter, which was acquired by Siemens Corp. last year. It makes metering software for electric, gas and water utilities.
Before that he was a consultant at TPG, a private investment firm.

Google search changes have small biz scrambling
Whenever Google tweaks the way it ranks websites, it causes a flurry of activity among businesses that rely on customers finding them through the popular search engine.
The most recent changes made late last month reportedly have caused more than the usual amount of heartburn, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Mountain View-based Google, however, told the Journal that companies that follow its guidelines shouldn't be affected by the revised algorithm known as "Penguin."<div class="feedflare">
