HP to cut up to 25,000 jobs (report); no word on Mass. layoffs

HP employs about 3,000 employees in Massachusetts, including at their Andover and Marlborough campuses. The Marlborough campus is around 133,000 square feet and is leased until 2016.

Tufts plans level 3 biolab in Boston's Chinatown
Tufts University announced Wednesday that it is seeking approval from the Boston Public Health Commission to build a biosafety research laboratory within its medical school building, located on Harrison Avenue in Chinatown.

Broker-Dealer ordered to recover $1M+ in annuities sold to elderly widow

Beck, a Maryland-based broker-dealer, has been ordered by the Massachusetts Secretary of State to refund more than $1 million in annuities improperly sold to an elderly widow by one of its representatives.
The order, issued by the state's Securities Division, also imposes a $90,000 fine on H. Beck for failure to supervise Paul J. Dumouchel of Wellesley, who was a registered representative of the firm from February 2009 through November 2011, according to Secretary of the State William F. Galvin.

Allen Questrom, retired chief executive officer of several of the nation?s largest department and specialty stores, has given $10 million to the Boston University School of Management, according to BU Today, a university publication.

Boston small biz owners gloomier than other cities (survey)

Only 19 percent of Boston-area respondents to the study said they plan to hire more employees, compared to 31 percent nationwide. Indiana Tech opens second Kentucky campus
The College of Professional Studies at Indiana Tech will soon be offering classes at a location in Northern Kentucky. It will be the college's second Kentucky campus.

KentuckyOne Health parent partners with Conifer Health Solutions to manage revenue
Conifer Health Systems has announced a 10-year agreement with Catholic Health Initiatives to manage revenue cycles for 56 of Catholic Health Initiatives hospitals across the country, including facilities in Kentucky.

Rooibee Red Tea secures more funding through stock issue

So far, the company has raised about $350,000 in funding, according to Heather Howell, the company?s chief tea officer.

Former Tennessee Commerce CFO joins First Federal
The former CFO of a troubled bank recently purchased by Louisville-based Republic Bancorp Inc. has been named CFO of Elizabethtown-based First Financial Service Corp. as part of a management shakeup.
First Financial (NASDAQ: FFKY) announced Wednesday that it had hired Frank Perez as CFO for the holding company and for its subsidiary, First Federal Savings Bank.

Kentucky unemployment drops to 8.3 percent

The preliminary April rate is the lowest unemployment rate in Kentucky since November 2008, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training.
The preliminary April 2012 jobless rate was 1.3 percentage points below the 9.6 percent rate recorded a year earlier.

Ford is taking orders for C-MAX hybrid

St. Louis Fed president: Fed doing enough
The Federal Reserve is doing enough to boost the economy, said James Bullard, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, in a speech Wednesday at The Olmsted. Bullard is a member of the Federal Open Market Committee, which helps set interest rates nationally.
