According to an analysis of federal data by On Numbers, a Nashville Business Journal affiliate, Nashville added 9,200 jobs in the private sector in 2011, No. 29 in the country. Nashville?s growth represents a one-year percentage change of 1.47 percent, No. 36 in the country.

Atlanta-based AutoTrader.com has some interesting data on car commercials from Sunday?s big game.
Volkswagen, Honda, Acura, Toyota, Hyundai, Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Fiat, Kia, Chrysler and Cadillac all ran Super Bowl ads. Between 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 5, more than 30 car commercials aired. Of those vehicles showcased, six performed the highest among shopper searches on the AutoTrader.com website.

</div>Proxy battle looms at J. Alexander'sAn Atlanta hedge fund is hoping to replace the entire board of directors at Nashville-based restaurant chain J. Alexander's Corp. (Nasdaq: JAX).
Privet Fund LP, which owns approximately 12.6 percent of the restaurant company, has submitted four nominees for election at the company?s annual shareholder meeting.
"It's our belief that the company would benefit from the inclusion of new directors," wrote Ryan Levenson, head of Privet, in a letter to J. Alexander?s earlier this month.

</div>O'Charley's Inc. to be purchased by Fidelity National<img src='http://assets.bizjournals.com/nashville/news/OCharleysweblogo*100.jpg?v=1'>Nashville-based O'Charley's Inc. (Nasdaq: CHUX) announced today it has signed an agreement to be purchased by Fidelity National Financial Inc. (NYSE: FNF).
According to a news release from O?Charley?s, Fidelity National will purchase all of O'Charley's outstanding shares of common stock for $9.85 per share, a 42 percent premium over the stock?s previous closing price of $6.92. The acquisition represents an investment of $221 million.

Microsoft Store coming next to Apple's at Stanford Shopping Center Microsoft Corp. plans to open its second retail store next to the Apple Store at Stanford Shopping Center, copying what it did with the first at Westfield Valley Fair in San Jose.

</div> Honeywell sues smart thermostat maker Nest over patents Honeywell Corp. said on Monday it has sued smart thermostat developer Nest Labs Inc. for patent infringement.
The lawsuit filed at United States District Court for the District of Minnesota alleges that the Palo Alto company infringes on seven Honeywell patents related to its thermostat technology.
The lawsuit also names Best Buy, which sells the Nest Labs thermostat.

</div> Best Buy asks,'Would you pay $1,499 for an Apple TV?' A customer survey reportedly done by Best Buy on possible price and features for a TV from Apple Inc. has fanned speculation that such a device might come this year.
The Verge website reported that the survey asked customers if they would be interested in spending $1,499 for an HDTV from Apple and listed various features, some of which are considered highly unlikely from the Cupertino company.

The South San Francisco-based company develops renewable and sustainable products.

The Seattle-based commercial real estate brokerage said hotel real estate investment trusts are picking up top-tier hotel properties in anticipation of a significant near-term bump in room rates as the post-recession economy continues to recover.

</div> Typhoon! closes remaining five restaurants Typhoon! Restaurants Inc. closed its remaining five restaurants Saturday, with Bo Kline, president of the Portland, Ore.-based chain saying she was unable to continue running the business following the death of her husband.
Steve Kline died in August after having a heart attack.

</div> Coinstar in DVD/streaming video deal with Verizon Coinstar Inc. and Verizon Monday announced a joint venture that will allow consumers to stream Redbox DVDs using Verizon's download service.
The new service will launch in the second half of 2012. Verizon will hold a 65 percent ownership share of the joint venture and Bellevue-based Coinstar's (NASDAQ: CSTR) Redbox unit will hold a 35 percent ownership share, according to a statement.<div class="feedflare">
