MN lost jobs in April, unemployment back to 5.6 percent

The state also reported that Minnesota's annual job growth rate was less than half of that nationwide. The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) reported Thursday that the state's seasonally-adjusted jobless rate fell to 5.6 percent. It had fallen to 5.6 percent in January, then rose in February and March to 5.8 percent. Sun Country offers flights to new destinations

Sun Country to connect Tampa Bay with Minneapolis/St. Paul
Sun Country Airlines, an airline based in Mendota Heights, Minn., will offer nonstop service from Tampa four times a week beginning in December. Head of VA Acquisition Academy to step down
Lisa Doyle, chancellor of the Veterans Affairs Acquisition Academy, is leaving her position in June to become the new vice president of learning and development at Lowe's Co., Federal Computer Week reported. USPS to start closing plants in August
The U.S. Postal Service will start consolidating its mail sorting facilities in August and spread the closing of 229 locations over the course of the next two years. When completed, the consolidations will eliminate 28,000 jobs and save the Postal Service $1.2 billion a year. CSC loses $158 million in 'very poor' quarter
Falls Church-based Computer Sciences Corp. fell into the red in its latest quarter, one which CEO Mike Lawrie candidly described as "very poor." CSC posted a net loss of $158 million, or $1.02 per diluted share, in the fiscal 2012 fourth quarter ended March 30. USAF chief raps report on cutting nuke arsenal

Senate committee approves OFPP nominee, four other bills
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee nearly unanimously approved Joe Jordan as the next administrator of the Office of Federal Procurement Policy, with the nomination now going to a vote of the full Senate, Federal News Radio reported.
